Plan Your Visit

Mindfulness Trail is a self-guided outdoor experience in the woods of East Warren, Maine, where curiosity, history, science, and a little fun turn an ordinary walk into a discovery experience.

Start at the Visitor Center

Please stop at the Science and History Visitor Center before going onto the trail.

We ask visitors to check in before starting and check out when they return so we can keep track of who is on the trail.

At the Visitor Center, you can pick up a trail map, ask questions, and receive a card to record your own observations and interpretations along the way.

What to Expect

Mindfulness Trail is designed to be explored at your own pace. Most visitors spend about an hour on the trail, though many stay longer.

Along the way, you’ll encounter Information Stops, forest features, and opportunities to look a little closer at the landscape around you.

Some visitors come for a quiet walk. Others come to explore the science and history hidden within the forest. There is no single right way to experience the trail.

Self-Guided Walks and Free Guided Tours

Visitors are welcome to explore the trail on their own using the trail map and information stops.

We also offer free guided tours when available. Guided tours are a good way to learn more about the discoveries, questions, and ongoing projects that make Mindfulness Trail unique.

The Trail Experience

The trail system includes the main Loop Trail and the Maze Trails.

The Loop Trail contains the primary information stops and discoveries.

The Maze Trails offer a different experience. There are no dead ends, but you may temporarily lose your sense of direction before eventually finding your way back to the Loop Trail.

Getting a little lost is part of the fun.

Science and History Visitor Center

Before and after your walk, take time to look around the Science and History Visitor Center.

Inside, you’ll find displays, specimens, project information, and ongoing research related to the trail and surrounding landscape.

This is a working exploration space rather than a traditional museum. New discoveries and questions are continually being added.
