Mystery Site

This old stone foundation was uncovered in 2023. It was hidden in a thicket of trees and bushes. We’ve removed most of the vegetation to reveal this mysterious site. The building that once stood on this foundation was probably built in the 1700’s. It was designed to shelter whatever occupied it from the cold and wind. It was dug into the side of the hill with the northeast side most protected and the doorway on the southwestern corner.

Two theories have been suggested so far:
  • A log cabin sat here as a home to a pioneer family – perhaps squatters?
  • This was an animal barn – perhaps for oxen?
  • Your theory?
What do you think?

Who built it?
When was it built?
What purpose did it serve?
Why was it abandoned?

The remains of a stone chimney, a silo, or something else?
